Cavalier Game Re-cap

The Cavaliers enter this 2010 campaign with high expectations, and why not?  The Cavaliers return a host of veterans and the team is determined to make it back to the post season for the first time since 2007.  They took a good first step toward that end on Friday night as they dominated the visiting Shady Spring Tigers 53-14 to open the season.

The Cavaliers used their punishing ground game to eat up both yardage and clock.  They took control of the game early on and never really let the Tigers establish any momentum at all.

Senior QB Chase Fitzwater led the way with 114 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns.  Dylan Trout added a 95 Yard punt return for a touchdown.  Cameron McQuain returned an interception 50 yards for a score as well.  The Cavs also got touchdown runs from Jabez Flemming, Janeek Wiggan, Dillon Ennis, and Malik Boatwright.   All in all the Cavaliers outgained the Tigers 438 to 111 on the ground.

Up next for West will be good matchup at home as they will host the Richwood Lumberjacks.  Richwood ended a lost string of West victories in this series last year and the Cavaliers will look to start a new streak this Friday night.  We’ll talk to you then.

Taking Our Youth Seriously
         “T.O.Y.S for the future”

Rodney and Angie Lehrbass of Deep River Creative have founded a non-profit organization called – “Taking Our Youth Seriously” (T.O.Y.S.)

"Taking Our Youth Seriously" is a non-profit organization designed to promote the youth and the youth programs of West Virginia through various fund raising efforts to establish a solid foundation for the future of West Virginia. "T.O.Y.S." will also be providing fine art and craft education and understanding to the youth through individual and group training in various fine art and craft related subjects.

Our first fund raising program is a Fresh Squeezed Lemonade stand that will be located in front of Deep River Creative at 111 Maplewood Ave. in Fairlea WV.  This Lemonade stand is a fund raiser waiting to happen. All Christian and private schools, non-profit youth organizations and other public youth programs in the Greater Greenbrier County are invited to schedule the booth for a day of fund raising, selling fresh squeezed Lemonade. Everything is provided, all they have to do is show up to man the stand and sell, sell, sell. Adult supervision is required during the stands operating hours. All of the proceeds will go to the organization manning the stand that day. In the cooler days of winter the stand will be converted into a hot chocolate and coffee stand.  The location of this stand has a constant flow of traffic, ideal for this type of fund raising project.

“T.O.Y.S.” is currently reaching out to the public and local businesses that would like to become involved with the initial funding of this project and join our contributors such as S.J. Neathawk Lumber Co. in Lewisburg, who has donated the building materials, and Sam’s Club of Beckley who donated the 10’x10’ pop-up. A list of needed items will be located in the gallery at Deep River Creative and monetary donations can also be made at www.toysWV.com.  All donations will be used to fund the stand and purchase necessary and recurring supplies such as lemons, ice and cups.

Future fund raising projects and several fine art and craft classes are in the planning stages and will be released soon.
